Red Legger gets its name from a group of mid 19th century abolitionists fighting for Kansas to enter the union as a free state. Growing up in this state I decided to brand myself as an artist with a regional history. Besides American history I’m greatly influenced by underground comix, outlaw printmakers, and pop and lowbrow art. I produce fine art screen prints and self-published zines full of wild mash-ups of roadside American ephemera and propaganda. Elements of vintage advertising litter my visual landscapes robbing them of their original intent of controlling the way the public views the world. This method produces new and exciting visual narratives that repurpose popular visual themes and icons that already exist in the viewers mind.
